Dovecote

Period: 1790

Location: Berwick upon tweed, Northumberland

Client: Private/Public

Sector: Grade ii listed, conservation area

Date: 2023

This is a collaborative project with Scottish based design studio, TA-MA, to convert a tiny dovecote into a holiday let. The brief is for simple and pared down elegance. Careful to keep as many original features as possible, the stone is left exposed on internal walls and otherwise covered with a blanket of insulated lime plaster. A new timber framed hat stabilises the stone walls whilst providing a central skylight to the bedroom. This project was all about breathing new life into a wonderful historic building.

  • Rear/side extension for new kitchen and break out space

  • Repurposing of interior to include snug, bathroom and bedroom

  • Upgrading building fabric

  • Bespoke joinery

  • Detailed kitchen and bathroom drawings

  • Planning application
